Adoption of New Accounting Pronouncements and Recent Accounting Pronouncement

Receivables, Disclosures about the Credit of Financing Receivables and the Allowance for Credit Losses - In July 2010, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) issued a standard that amended a previously issued standard requiring an entity to include additional disaggregated disclosures in their financial statements about their financing receivables, including credit risk disclosures and the allowance for credit losses. Entities with financing receivables are required to disclose a rollforward of the allowance for credit losses, certain credit quality information, impaired loan information, modification information and past due information. Trade receivables with maturities of less than one year are excluded from the scope of the new disclosures. Bunge adopted this disclosure as of December 31, 2010.  As a result of the adoption of this standard, we have expanded our disclosures (see Note 9).  The adoption of the standard did not have a material impact on our financial position, results from operations or cash flows.

In May 2011, the FASB issued Accounting Standards Update (ASU) No. 2011-04, Amendments to Achieve Common Fair Value Measurement and Disclosure Requirements in U.S. GAAP and the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).  The amendments in this Update are intended to result in convergence between U.S. GAAP and IFRS requirements for measurement of, and disclosures about, fair value. ASU 2011-04 clarifies or changes certain fair value measurement principles and enhances the disclosure requirements particularly for Level 3 fair value measurements. The amendments in this update are to be applied prospectively. The amendments are effective during interim and annual periods beginning after December 15, 2011. Bunge is evaluating the impact this standard may have on its consolidated financial statements.
