Collaborative Research and Academic Agreement with
Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology
Marula Mining PLC ( AQSE: MARU A2X: MAR ) an African focused mining and development company, is pleased to announce that it has entered into a 5-year Collaborative Research and Academic Agreement (the "Agreement") with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology ("JKUAT").
The Agreement sets out a partnership and collaboration between Marula and JKUAT aimed at establishing a framework for cooperative joint research in the mining, mineral processing, mineral value addition and associated fields . Under the Agreement, both Marula and JKUAT will carry on a continued program of exchanging information on a wide variety of educational and applied research programs focused on maximising value from the development of Kenya's mining sector.
The signing of the Agreement is firmly in line with the Company's strategy in Kenya and throughout Africa, to maximise the benefits from its mining and mineral processing activities for all stakeholders and for responsible broad based socio-economic development in a sustainable environment.
JKUAT is one of Kenya's leading universities and research centres recognised for its strong emphasis on science, engineering, technology, and innovation. With a solid track record in applied research, JKUAT plays a key role in advancing Kenya's development goals, particularly in areas such as industrialisation, sustainable development, and technological innovation
Key objectives of the Agreement include:
· to undertake joint research in the mining, mineral processing and mineral value addition
· to provide an instrument for establishing various collaborative initiatives for the growth and mutual benefit of the two institutions
· to enhance professional skills through training, joint ventures, exchanges, learning and exposures visits, curricula development and review of relevant courses and training, staff and students' interactions and exchange of experiences and information
· to boost and enhance higher education, through research, training, innovation, technological development and capacity building in the areas of mutual interest
· to identify and encourage any other activities that would benefit both parties.
The Company and JKUAT have agreed that the initial areas of focus will include:
· technological development into proprietry processing and refining and purification of raw materials in Kenya to create cathode and anode active battery materials
· r esearch and technological development of mineral and metallurgical processes to produce and supply High Purity Manganese Sulphate Monohydrate (HPMSM) from Marula's manganese mining and processing operations in Kenya, to the electric vehicle battery market;
· research and technological innovation on the extraction, production and supply of high purity lithium and graphite products to the electric vehicle battery market.
