Lufthansa result for the first quarter 2001: Revenue up by 15.1 per cent,
decline in overall result due to increased fuel and project expenses
According to preliminary figures for the first quarter of the 2001 financial
year, Lufthansa raised its traffic revenue by 16.1 per cent to EUR 3.0 billion
and its overall revenue by 15.1 per cent to EUR 3.6 billion.
The cost of materials climbed by 16.1 per cent to EUR 1.7 billion. Increases in
staff costs and depreciation involving increment rates of 9.0 per cent and 10.5
per cent respectively held down revenues.
The operating result was only EUR 5 million compared with EUR 99 million for the
same period in the previous year.
Besides additional expenditure due to rising fuel costs the decline in earnings
was mainly due to up-front payments for the Group’s e-business initiatives.
Details on this and fuller information on the annual result for 2000 will be
announced at the Press and Analysts’ Conference beginning at 10 am on 27th April
2001. The information will be available simultaneously and can be downloaded
from the Internet: http://www.lufthansa-financials.de.
