Bonn, March 27, 2000
Deutsche Telekom acquires majority stake in debis Systemhaus
Deutsche Telekom AG and DaimlerChrysler AG are entering into a strategic
partnership in the field of information technology. As such, Deutsche Telekom
will hold 50.1 percent and thus the management control of debis Systemhaus
GmbH from DaimlerChrysler. This transaction is still subject to the approval of
the cartel authorities and the DaimlerChrysler Supervisory Board. “This
shareholding in debis Systemhaus is a major step for us toward becoming a
global telematics service provider. This acquisition will make Deutsche Telekom
the second largest systems company in Europe, generating considerable
synergies in our home market”, said the Chairman of the Board of Management,
Dr. Ron Sommer. In addition, debis has a worldwide data network. This will
make a major contribution to accelerating and reducing the cost of the
expansion of Deutsche Telekom’s global networks.
Deutsche Telekom has defined systems business as one of its four strategic
growth areas, along with mobile communications, online and network access.
To date, Deutsche Telekom has been particularly active in this field with
DeTeSystem.
The acquisition of debis Systemhaus will provide additional growth and synergy
potential for the Deutsche Telekom Group.
