DEUTZ Group: 3rd Quarter Report 2003
Increase in new orders
Sales maintained
Profits higher than a year ago
DEUTZ is holding its ground against the negative trend. In the third quarter it
increased the total value of its new orders, kept sales steady, and improved
profits over last years figure.
The DEUTZ Group, which employs a total of 5,543 people worldwide, was able to
increase its new orders to EURO 890.8 million (2002: EURO 881.2 million).
Despite a fall in unit sales to 115,955 engines (2002: 120,173), cumulative
sales by the end of the third quarter came to EURO 841.4 million, only 0.4
percent lower than the comparable figure in 2002 (EURO 845.2 million). DEUTZ
achieved earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) of EURO 30.4 million (2002:
EURO 30.7 million). With lower interest expenditure of EURO 25.8 million (2002:
EURO 27.6 million) DEUTZ was able to increase its profit on ordinary activities
to EURO 4.6 million (2002: EURO 3.1 million). With EURO 2.5 million after tax,
corporate profit was above the previous years figure of EURO 2.1 million
For the whole of 2003 DEUTZ is expecting an improvement in profit over last year
despite the continuing slack in economic trends.
