——————————————————————————
The loss for the 2004 financial year, at EUR 18.6 million, has turned out to
be smaller than expected (2003: EUR 6.0 million profit).
This is due to the restructuring charge for refocussing the medium-sized and
large engines segment on decentralised energy generation systems, which came
in at EUR 5.0 million less than expected. Now that all the necessary, detailed
restructuring measures have been put in place, that extraordinary expense has
fallen from the original EUR 40.0 million to EUR 35.0 million.
In the 2004 financial year, DEUTZ increased its operating profit (EBIT) by 14
% to EUR 50.1 million (2003: EUR 44.0 million). Despite negative currency
movements, sales also grew by 6 % to EUR 1,242.1 million (2003: EUR 1,172.6
million). Net financial debt was considerably reduced, by EUR 124 million to
EUR 100 million (2003: EUR 224.2 million). Cash flow from normal operating
activities showed a significant increase in comparison to last year, rising by
over EUR 58 million to EUR 92.9 million (2003: EUR 34.6 million).
