E.ON acquires TXU activities in the UK
E.ONs UK-subsidiary, Powergen, has acquired TXU Europes retail business with
5.5 million customers in Great Britain and three coal fired power stations.
The purchase price amounts to Euro 2,17 bln (£ 1,37 bln). TXUs trading business
and its power purchase agreements are not part of the transaction.
This acquisition dramatically boosts Powergens customer base making it the
largest electricity supplier in the UK with over 6 million customers. In the
gas business Powergen is now the second largest supplier with some 2.4 million
customers.
The significant increase in customer numbers strengthens the position of
Powergen in the attractive retail sales business.
The transaction is still subject to competition approval by the European
Commission. However, the Commission has agreed to allow immediate completion of
the deal.
