Berlin, May 17, 2013. Eckert & Ziegler AG is to acquire EnergySolution's UK
sources and waste business effective June 2013. The waste management
segment, based in Didcot near London, provides a range of services centered
on the management of low-level radioactive materials and sources.
EnergySolutions EU made the decision to sell the division in line with its
corporate focus on serving the nuclear decommissioning, clean-up and waste
management markets in the UK and mainland Europe.
The business unit generated sales of around EUR2.5 million in 2012 with its
12 employees and, following its acquisition, will significantly reinforce
Eckert & Ziegler's role as an international company in the safe disposal
and recycling of industrial, scientific and medical radiation sources.
'We don't expect the acquisition to pressure our earnings,' explained Dr.
Gunnar Mann, Head of Environmental Services. 'In fact, we will be able to
take advantage of major synergies with existing business in Environmental
Services right from the get-go. This takeover will also help us strengthen
our position as the first port of call in the UK for the safe disposal and
professional recycling of radiation sources. We are excited to have
acquired such an experienced team of experts and believe that our customers
will be able to benefit hugely from the new addition.'
