ELMOS acquires far-reaching licence in the field of optical sensors
ELMOS Semiconductor AG has acquired a licence of exclusive rights for an
innovative optical measuring principle named HALIOS (High Ambient Light
Independent System). The out-standing innovation of this optical measuring
principle is the detection of 3-dimensional movements as well as the elimination
of optical interference effects. In addition, the HALIOS system is self-
adjusting and able to compensate ageing and environmentally corrosive effects.
This measuring principle allows the contact-free detection of any movement,
including push-buttons and switches, and their conversion into electrical
signals. Due to its contact-free and, therefore wear-resistant measurement mode,
the HALIOS system offers access to completely new applications. If the
detection is realized by optically pervious and, at the same time, printable
surfaces, switches and control units, especially regulators, can be “virtually”
shown. The multi-faceted nature of HALIOS will contribute to product development
in areas ranging from video and audio systems, consumer good electronics,
household equipment, data processing, up through and including communication and
automotive systems, and industrial electronics.
This pioneering investment conducted against international competitors offers
ELMOS the access to a package of intellectual property comprising 24 patents
owned by a German invention team. This exclusive licence gives ELMOS the chance
to address new products and new markets and to expand long-term sales and
earnings.
