According to first results, ELMOS Semiconductor AG, Dortmund, closed the year 2001 reaching an income after taxes of EUR 11.6 million or 10.7% of sales (previous year EUR 16.5 million or 15.6% of sales). This is very remarkable because ELMOS had an additional cost of approximately EUR 7 million to carry, resulting from the expansion of its subsidiary ELMOS North America Inc. and the restructuring of the acquisitions of Eurasem B.V. and SMI Inc. (USA). As a result of this expansive future oriented strategy, ELMOS is one of the very few semiconductor companies which could finalize a very difficult year with a result above expectations. Net sales accumulated to EUR 107.0 million, well in line with the company’s expectations and slightly (+1%) above the sales of the previous year. This is because planned sales contributions from a mobile telecommunications business could not materialize and some automotive products were phased out during the second half of the year. The book-to-bill ratio in the year 2001 was 1.01, and thereby lower by 12% compared to the previous year’s ratio of 1.15. The company will present the final annual results during its press conference in Düsseldorf and the analyst meeting in Frankfurt on February 13th, 2002.
