The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– ELMOS: Sales 2001 +1%, Earnings per share EUR 0.60 The ELMOS Semiconductor AG (NM: ELG) reached net sales of EUR 107.0 millions in the fiscal year 2001 (previous year EUR 105.8m). The gross margin was EUR 49.8 millions (previous year 54.9m), 47% of sales respectively. The book-to-bill ratio in the year 2001 was 1.01 (previous year 1.15). The research and development expenses rose to EUR 17.0 millions (previous year EUR 13.8m) marking a new peak. In addition, intensified sales activities for example in the U.S.A. express the increased marketing and selling expenses of EUR 5.5 millions (previous year EUR 3.3m). General and administrative expenses were frozen on the previous year’s level of EUR 10.1 millions. The operating income reached with EUR 17.0 millions (previous year EUR 27.7m) a remarkable value for the year of crisis 2001 of the semiconductor industry representing 16% of sales. By the use of loss carry-forwards of the subsidiary eurasem the tax load was lowered significantly ending up with a net income of EUR 11.6 millions (previous year EUR 16.6m). This results in an earnings per share of EUR 0.60 (previous year EUR 0.86). In total, 27 new design wins were gained during the year 2001 (previous year 24). As a result, possible sales contribution of series production will effect sales from 2004 on. For the running year 2002 moderate sales growth of +5% as well as a pre-tax profit at the same level as for the past business year are expected. In contrast to the preceding years, the retained earnings should be kept in the company to have funds available for the growth planned.
