The quarterly financial figures of the ELMOS Semiconductor AG confirm the positive trend started in the first quarter despite the weak market conditions. The quarterly sales increased by 3% compared with the previous quarter ending up with EUR 26.4 million. Internal measures to enhance the efficie ncy grew the gross margin to 47% of sales. The gross profit amounted to EUR 12.3 million although the short-time work at the production plant in Dortmund ended in the second quarter, leading to full labor costs again. The expenditures for research and development amounted to EUR 4.3 million, decreasing to 16% of sales. Marketing and selling expenses reached EUR 1.5 million in the same period, the general and administrative costs EUR 3.0 million. Exceptional positive was the trend to higher income before income taxes that increased by 39% compared to the first quarter ending up with approximately EUR 3.6 million or 14% of sales. Correspondingly good was the net income for the second quarter with EUR 2.0 million, giving earnings per share of EUR 0.11. The book-to-bill ration reached 1.04 in the second quarter. Based on additional ramp-ups of projects during the third and fourth quarter, total sales in the range of EUR 110 to EUR 112 million can be expected for the full year 2002.
