The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– ELMOS: Successful Year 2002 Total sales of ELMOS Semiconductor AG (FSE: ELG) grew by 3% to mEUR 109.7 (prev. year: mEUR 107.0) at an excellent gross margin of 49% (prev. year: 47%). The acquired subsidiaries eurasem and SMI contributed consolidated sales of mEUR 2.8 and mEUR 7.3 to total sales. The book-to-bill ratio amounted to 1.03 for the full year (prev. year: 1.01). Research and development expenses remained at a level of 16% of sales or mEUR 17.5 (prev. year: mEUR 17.0). Also at previous year’s level of 5% of sales or mEUR 6,0 were marketing and selling cost (prev. year: mEUR 5.5). General and administrative expense rose from mEUR 10.1 to mEUR 12.0 in 2002 owing to the increase of companies to be consolidated in the group. Despite of that operating income grew by more than 7% to mEUR 18.3 (prev. year: mEUR 17.0). Total capital investment of the ELMOS group ended at mEUR 34.1 million (prev. year: mEUR 46.5). Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) rose by 3% to mEUR 19.3 (prev. year: mEUR 18.8). Investments in securing the future of the subsidiaries eurasem and SMI forced higher interest expense of mEUR 3.6 (prev. year: mEUR 1.5). Therefore, earnings before taxes (EBT) resulted in mEUR 15.7 (prev. year: mEUR 17.3). Finally, higher taxes reduced net income to mEUR 8.9 (prev. year: mEUR 11.6). Earnings per share (EPS) amounted to EUR 0.46 compared to EUR 0.60 in the last year. In view of the bad constitution of the capital markets the proposal to the annual shareholder meeting will be to accumulate and carry forward the retained earnings. The management board expects that ramping new products during the year will lead to approx. 15% sales growth ending up with about mEUR 125 of total sales for the year 2003.
