ELMOS Semiconductor AG (FSE: ELG) achieved sales of 123.8 million Euro in
past fiscal year 2009 (2008: 175.1 million Euro), according to preliminary
figures. The reason for the sales decline compared to 2008 is the worldwide
crisis. Due to a comprehensive package of cost-cutting measures of roughly
15 million Euro, the reduction of earnings was disproportionately low in
relation to the decrease in sales. The gross profit amounted to 35.9
million Euro (2008: 75.6 million Euro) and the gross margin thus came to
29.0% (2008: 43.2%). Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) were
negative, at -15.8 million Euro (2008: 16.5 million Euro).
In the 2nd half-year 2009 a clear upward trend became noticeable. Following
a 40.9% increase in sales from the second to the third quarter of 2009,
sales grew by another 13.9% from the third to the fourth quarter of 2009.
The EBIT recorded a clearly positive amount as well (Q4 2009: 2.9 million
Euro). As a balanced EBIT was already reached in the third quarter - one
quarter ahead of schedule -, a positive EBIT was achieved in the second
half-year 2009 on the whole.
The volume of orders received and the customers' order behavior have shown
a positive development throughout the past months. However, the
sustainability of the economic upswing is still uncertain.
A forecast for the whole year 2010 will be presented together with the
release of the financial statements 2009.
