Elmos is a specialist for reliable IC solutions for BLDC and stepper motors
in vehicles. For example, the Elmos chip adjusts the grille shutter to
optimise the aerodynamics of the vehicle and thereby reduce fuel
consumption. These and other applications (engine cooling fan, water pump
and front light adjustment) are illustrated by Elmos in a new video.

The following Elmos ICs are explained with their functions, specifics and
animated application examples:

The E523.30 is a motor driver for double-pole stepper motors. This
component features sensorless end position/blocking recognition. To meet
the highest demands for motor position recognition, Hall sensors or
potentiometers can also be connected to the IC. The Elmos component has a
LIN bus interface, which means it can be integrated directly with the
actuator which saves installation space. Alternatively DC motors can also
be controlled. In the video clip, the component controls the radiator
grille and front light adjustment.

The E523.52 features a gate driver combined with a 16-bit microcontroller
to control BLDC and PMS motors in a compact QFN36 housing. The driver can
control a NMOS B6 output level and simultaneously ensures trouble-free
operation with various security mechanisms. Elmos produces the E523.52 in a
high-voltage SOI process that permits continuous operating voltages up to
72V. This reliably meets the requirements of new 48V electrical systems
including a reserve for voltage peaks. The IC is shown in the video clip in
its function with an engine cooling fan.

The E523.05 is the 12V version of the E523.52. In addition, the E523.05
also offers an integrated LIN transceiver that permits direct connection to
the electrical system with its high-voltage interface. Optionally this
interface can also be used for PWM signals depending on the interface
preferred by the respective automobile manufacturer. The E523.05 is shown
as a control unit for the water pump in the video clip.
