Income Taxes The income tax benefit of $8.0 million for the three months ended March 31, 2013, included approximately a $6.7 million of discrete tax benefit related to 2012 U.S. federal research and development tax credit retrospectively reinstated under the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. The income tax expense for the three months ended April 1, 2012, of $7.7 million included a $3.2 million of discrete tax benefit resulting from reductions in uncertain tax positions related to statute expirations of transfer pricing issues.
