Definiens AG, a leading provider of software solutions for automated pattern
recognition in biomedical images and scientific text, together with Evotec
Technologies GmbH, a subsidiary of Evotec OAI AG, supplier of innovative
technologies for life sciences, today announced an agreement to combine
complementary technologies in order to create an informatics-based system
designed to help accelerate drug discovery and development.
Evotec Technologies (ET) has generated an interface for Definiens Cellenger to
ETs software technology platform Libretto. Cellenger is a software for powerful
automated high content analysis of tissues and cellular assays that enables the
reliable and fully automated extraction and detailed analysis of structures of
interest even in complex image data and tasks. The extracted objects are then
counted or morphometrically measured. In contrast to a more qualitative, global
assessment of an image, as is the case with a visual analysis, a detailed,
quantitative description of, e.g. tissue substructures, can now be obtained.
This new relationship offers scientists a comprehensive and integrated solution
for robust, detailed and high throughput screening of assays in cell biology. In
particular, ET’s confocal microplate analyser for high quality image detection
(Opera) will take advantage of this innovative software solution.
“The value added which is achieved by automated, detailed, context sensitive,
reliable, and fast analysis of theses images can not be underestimated,” said
Uli Berresheim, CEO of Definiens AG. “We are going to create a system that will
automatically provide the user with valuable information about cells, cell
components, and their mutual relations. The synergy between the quality of
images provided by Opera and the detailed analysis and quantification achieved
through Cellenger is outstanding.”
“The cooperation with Definiens is a further important step towards developing
and manufacturing our products with competent strategic partners. Cellenger
further extends Opera’s capabilities as an open platform for cell biology
experimentation, and with our open software architecture we could implement this
extension quickly” said Dr. Rolf Günther, CSO of Evotec Technologies.
The joint solution will be available by the end of September 2003. Further
information about Definiens and Evotec Technologies, as well as their complete
respective product ranges, can be found on the following websites:
