Mentana-Claimsoft obtains De-Mail accreditation
De-Mail technology given the go-ahead as German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) grants certificate to FP subsidiary at CeBIT

Birkenwerder, 17th February 2012 – The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) is to grant Mentana-Claimsoft GmbH accreditation as a De-Mail provider. The BSI will present the subsidiary of the listed company Francotyp-Postalia Holding AG (FP) with the accreditation certificate at CeBIT (Hall 12, Stand B35) on the morning of 6 March (Tuesday).

This is the final go-ahead for the new communications technology. Mentana-Claimsoft will also present its products and De-Mail prices in a public press conference at CeBIT on the same day (6 March, 16:00, Heidelberg Room, Convention Center, Ground Floor). 'To finally achieve this status as a certified De-Mail provider is a fantastic achievement for us and marks a strong step forward along our path to become a multi-channel provider for mail management', explains Andreas Drechsler, member of the Management Board of Francotyp-Postalia Holding AG.

Three steps to becoming a provider
'Over the last few months, we have been heavily involved in the accreditation process, providing numerous pieces of evidence, answering questions and documenting our processes and technical infrastructure. We are therefore delighted to now be in a position to launch our De-Mail products on the market', adds Axel Janhoff, Managing Director of Mentana-Claimsoft GmbH and Francotyp-Postalia Vertrieb und Service GmbH. To obtain accreditation as a De-Mail provider from the BSI, three crucial certificates are required: Firstly, there is the ISO 27001 certificate on the basis of IT baseline protection, confirming the security of the provider's De-Mail infrastructure. Mentana-Claimsoft GmbH obtained this ISO certificate back in December 2011. The next step was to pass a function and operability test, for which the BSI issued a certificate of completion as well as a data protection certificate (as defined in Article 18 (3) No. 4 of the De-Mail Act). The latter was awarded to Mentana-Claimsoft by the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI) Peter Schaar.

De-Mail is a secure, confidential and legally binding fully electronic postal service. De-Mail is binding in that both the sender and recipient must be securely identified when registering for the first time, before they are able to use the technology. Confidentiality is guaranteed with especially strong encryption, and the De-Mail Act defines the security requirements and provides the legal basis so that it has the same legal effect as conventional mail.

Sending sensitive mail in digital form securely
De-Mail is of particular interest to authorities and companies. With De-Mail, they now also have the option to send sensitive documents in digital form, which previously required a conventional letter. Sensitive documents include, for example, personal data, offers, confirmations of orders, notifications, reminders and even registered mail with advice of receipt. The De-Mail Act, which came into force in May 2011, provides the legal basis for this. This means that documents not only reach their recipients faster, but the senders also save postage and processing costs compared with paper-based mail services. 'We will provide detailed information on this in the press conference at CeBIT', says Mr Drechsler in conclusion. 'This is also the moment when the first De-Mails will finally be sent.'
