The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– freenet.de AG: continued growth in 2001 Increased revenues rising to DM 54.66 mill.(+29% over 2000); DM 32.14 mill. loss from ordinary activities before tax(IAS); group loss of DM 19.24 mill.(IAS); Q4/01 quarter with the fastest growth in customers and revenues since IPO; freenet.de has successfully continued its track record of growth and in Q4/01 recorded the highest revenues since its formation, and almost halved its losses. Compared with Q3/01(DM 12.39 mill.) revenues increased by nearly 40% to DM 17.06 mill. despite a difficult environment. All major revenue sources contributed to this growth: connectivity with DM 8.52 mill.(Q3/01:DM 5.03 mill.), advertising with DM 4.74 mill.(Q3/01:DM 2.58 mill.), and e-commerce with DM 3.42 mill.(Q3/01:DM 3.35 mill.). Results from ordinary activities before tax(IAS) improved sharply, from a loss of DM 12.21 mill. in Q3/01 to a loss of DM 6.48 mill.. In comparison with Q4/00 (DM -21.15 mill.) results from ordinary activities before tax(IAS) improved by 69%; the result of higher revenues, a stable, lean personnel structure and lower marketing expenses. With 3.05 mill. active access customers (+85% over 2000) and 4.39 mill. members (+86% over 2000) freenet.de achieved the fastest-growing quarter in its history. Revenues for the whole of 2001 totalled DM 54.66 mill., an increase of almost 30% over the DM 42.40 mill. reached in 2000. The loss from ordinary activities before tax(IAS) amounted to DM 32.14 mill., just 5% more than 2000. This slightly higher loss was due to an expanded cost and personnel structure, which freenet.de established at the beginning of 2001 as the basis for further strong growth and further revenue growth will thus have a direct effect on the bottom line. For the whole of 2001 the group loss amounted to DM 19.24 mill.(DM -17.52 mill. in 2000). At the end of 2001, freenet.de still had over 50% of liquid funds from its IPO, or DM 106 mill..
