The new Gigaset GS170 is here, following on smoothly from its predecessor, the GS160. It likewise promises smart features at a smart price – in this case EUR149.00. Compared to its forerunner, the new GS170 not only boasts a new look and different color variants, but the display, operating system and RAM have also been improved.

The new Gigaset GS170 delivers cutting-edge technology at an attractive price. Smart touch features mean that interacting with the device is child’s play. A 5-inch IPS HD touch display with a dirt-repellent surface acts as a perfect interface between the user and smartphone. Inside, a larger RAM and the latest operating system Android 7.0 (Nougat) ensure power, convenience and security.

“The GS170 is our successor model to the GS160, which we presented at the end of last year,” says Raphael Dörr, Head of Corporate Communications & Investor Relations at Gigaset AG. “With our new model, we are once again offering smart features at a smart price and have also raised the product to the state of the art in this price class.”

Leading-edge technology in a smart packaging
The new Gigaset GS170 is driven by the powerful 1.3-GHz MediaTek quad-core processor, which now has a 2-GB RAM and 16-GB internal flash memory. As with the GS160, the latter can be expanded to up to 128 GB using a microSD card.

Thanks to its powerful and replaceable 2,500 mAh lithium-ion battery, the GS170 promises maximum length of use, even with intensive media consumption or if multiple apps are used simultaneously. Unfettered enjoyment online is ensured thanks to 4G LTE download speeds of up to 150 Mbit a second. In addition, the GS170 supports Voice over LTE (VoLTE), a feature that has not been customary in this price class to date and ensures particularly fast establishment of a connection and excellent voice quality.

The GS170 also has an impressive look. The new rounded 2.5D glass means the device is pleasant to hold and offers the user a clear view of the display at all times thanks to its anti-smudge coating. Its visual appearance is rounded out by a new message LED on the smartphone’s front.

It indicates incoming messages – even when the display is switched off – and also shows the remaining battery life in two colors. The replaceable rear cover also ensures a personal look – it comes in the colors urban blue and mocca and offers customers additional choice and personalization options.

No limits thanks to dual SIM
The dual SIM slot of the GS170 enables simultaneous use of two SIM cards and is ideal for vacation or business trips abroad. The bother of changing cards is now a thing of the past and any roaming charges are no longer an issue. Thanks to the separate third slot for a microSD card, the amount of memory can be expanded in addition to using two SIM cards. The ample 16-GB internal memory can then be increased to up to 128 GB – enough space for around 55,000 photos, 18,000 songs or 30 HD films to enable unlimited entertainment.

Easy fingerprint function to unlock the phone
A special feature in the price class below EUR150 is the multi-functional fingerprint sensor. Located on the rear, it is not only used to unlock the smartphone but also for scrolling in the browser, speed dialing by means of different fingerprints and taking photos. A total of up to five different fingerprints for different functions can be stored.

13-megapixel camera with auto focus
The GS170 also offers an abundance of camera features. The 13-megapixel camera makes the GS170 the perfect everyday companion. Special experiences can be captured quickly and easily using various modes, such as beauty or panorama. High-quality selfies can also be snapped using the 5-megapixel front camera. If so desired, they can also be taken fully automatically in response to a smile or gesture.

Nougat for the Gigaset GS170
To match the product name GS170, Gigaset has switched the operating system over to the latest software Android 7.0 (Nougat). That entails a raft of innovations. The operating system’s performance is improved and power consumption reduced, thus resulting in a longer battery life. Intuitive features, such as multi-window support, also improve presentation on the screen, meaning that two windows can be shown simultaneously, for example.

Draw symbols to open apps
The smart features of the GS170 also offer something else special.
The high By drawing certain symbols on the display with their finger, users can open specific apps. For example, the letter “W” opens the messaging app WhatsApp, while sports news can be displayed with an “S”. The Gigaset GS170 stores up to eight predefined letters. The smart touchscreen also displays its abilities when screenshots are created: All that takes is for the user to swish three fingers across the display from top to bottom.

As smart as any phone needs to be
The new Gigaset GS170 is the ideal entry-level smartphone. It offers a unique overall technological package comprising a fingerprint sensor, 4G LTE with VoLTE, replaceable battery, dual SIM and separate microSD memory card slot, a 13-megapixel camera, 2.5D glass with anti-smudge protection and the latest Android 7.0 operating system. That combination makes the GS170 unique in its price class and in terms of its price of EUR149.00 (RRP).

The Gigaset GS170, and the rear covers in urban blue and mocca priced EUR9.99 each, are available from specialty retailers and in the Gigaset online shop as of July 2017.
