The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– telegate AG continues to expand: Group revenues increase to DM 68 million Munich, 16 May 2001 – The Munich-based telegate AG has been able to increase its revenues in the first quarter of the current business year to DM 68 million (first quarter of 2000: DM 62 million). The number of calls handled by the directory-enquiries service rose 37 percent from 28.6 million to 39.1 million. Whereas the rate of growth in the German market (adjusted by the call-by-call revenues still earned in the 1st quarter of 2000) was moderate at seven percent during the first three months of this year, the company’s expansion into Europe is beginning to bear fruit. This is particularly true of Italy where telegate has already earned revenues of DM 0.4 million since the beginning of the year. In the first quarter of 2001, telegate concentrated on the reorientation of its core business in Germany under the directory-enquiries number 11880. The measures taken to increase demand are already showing positive results at the end of the period under review. In comparison to the last quarter of 2000, the company handled around seven percent more calls in the first three months of this year. Due to the high start-up losses and investments, the post-tax result for the first quarter of 2001 amounts to minus DM 15 million. This sum includes provisions of DM 2.1 for Formula 1 sponsoring. The result before taxes, interest and depreciation (EBITDA) according to plan: minus DM 12.9 million. Over the coming months, telegate AG aims to create a significant increase in the number of calls handled in Germany through product extensions and strategic collaborations. Outside Germany, the company also aims to translate its good initial market position into increasing revenues. In the USA, telegate handled around nine million calls in the first quarter of 2001. In Italy, a start has been made on setting up the directory-enquiries service for the around 23 million mobile-telephone customers of Telecom Italia Mobile.
