Starting shot for competition in UK: telegate starts with the short code 118866
Munich, 23rd Mai 2002 – A further big step for the European expansion of
telegate AG: After Spain the directory enquiries service provider now received a
competitive short code in Great Britain as well. In course of the official
short code lottery of the British Regulatory Authority OFTEL the German service
provider received the short code 118866. “Double one : double eight : double
six, a great number, which is very easy to remember.” – Dr. Klaus Harisch, CEO
of telegate AG, emphasises. After the short code lottery the competition in the
directory enquiries market now finally started in Great Britain. With 35 million
fixed line users and 40 million mobile users the British market generates
approximately 720 million directory enquiries per year. The present directory
enquires short code “192” will be withdrawn from the former monopolist British
Telecom after a transfer period of 12 months.
In the past months telegate did work on the technical requirements for the quick
interconnection with the British telecommunication networks. The company plans
to start the service under the own short code latest at the end of the year. In
the telegate call centre in the Scottish Dumfries sufficient capacities are
available for a successful market entry. Telegate AG presently is in concrete
negotiations with potential financial and media partners, in order to ensure a
fast and successful marketing of the brand 118866 : similar to the 11880 in
Germany.
