JENOPTIK makes the breakthrough in Latin America with
wireless local loop technology
KRONE AG receives DM 60 million order from Telecom Argentina.
Biggest ever contract for fixed-network wireless communication systems.
The globally active telecommunications manufacturer KRONE AG, Berlin
(Germany), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the JENOPTIK AG
Technology Group, Jena (Germany), has made the breakthrough in the
Latin American market with the fixed-network wireless local loop (WLL)
technology. Krone received an order worth DM 60 million from the
Argentine network operator Telecom Argentina. The order means that Krone
is now one of the leading suppliers of WLL technology in Latin America.
Thanks to a range of up to 80 kilometres and a voice transmission quality
comparable with traditional fixed networks, Krone technology once again
won through against all the competing systems from all countries.
As well as this contract, which is the biggest ever WLL contract for
the Berlin-based company, the group has won a number of other contracts
in Argentina and Columbia since the start of 1998.
The Jenoptik subsidiary got its first major contract for the wireless
technology in 1997 in the Philippines. By the end of the project,
its value was around DM 45 million. Here too, the company emerged
the winner after equally fierce international competition. Elsewhere
in Asia, WLL technology has been successfully implemented in China
and Indonesia.
The KRONE Group, which is the Telecommunications Technologies Division
of JENOPTIK AG, had a turnover of DM 642 million in 1997,
80 percent of which came from abroad. Last year’s sales relating
to WLL technology amounted to DM 43.6 million.
