Sales and EBIT surpass the previous year’s figures considerably. Jenoptik stands by its prognosis for the overall year. The first half of 2001 was a success for the Jenoptik technology group (German listing 622910). According to the preliminary figures for the first half of 2001, sales have climbed to over 800 mill. euros after the first six months (2000: 463.7 mill. euros). Operating income (EBIT) will reach figures over 70% higher than those of the previous year (32.4 mill. euros), including a contribution to operating income from the sale of 44% of shares in MicroLas GmbH. Even without this added contribution, operating income would be higher than in the same period last year. The Clean Systems and Photonics business divisions contributed substantially to the latest in a series of increases in operating income and, as expected, the Asset Management business division fell below last year’s excellent figures. Despite negative market developments and the worldwide semiconductor crisis, order intake remained stable in the first half of 2001. Order intake in the Photonics business division rose 10% (2000: 145.6 mill. euros). The Clean Systems business division’s order intake fell around 20% (2000: 1,170.9 mill. euros). The major order for over 232 mill. euros from IBM at the beginning of July was, however, not yet included in the figures, since it fell within the third quarter of 2001. Taking this order into account, the order intake in the Clean Systems business division would have remained at last year’s level. Based on these provisional figures, the Jenoptik Group has left its prognosis for the entire fiscal year unchanged. The final figures for the first half of 2001 will be announced on 28 August 2001.
