KHD to upgrade Italcementi's Rezatto plant in environmentally sensitive region

Cologne, Germany, November 22, 2012 – The Italcementi Group (ITC) recently awarded KHD a contract to upgrade and redevelop its historic Brescia Rezzato plant. The upgraded plant, situated the in environmentally sensitive Lake Garda region, will have to adhere to very strict emissions, noise and other environmental requirements, while simultaneously ensuring highest levels of availability and low investment costs.

Italcementi has chosen KHD's Clean Technology to meet this challenge, which includes:

– KHD COMFLEX(R) SC 18 – 3250 system for raw material grinding

– 2-Pier PYRORAPID(R) Kiln 3000 tpd. 4.4m x 52m

– PFC PYRFLOOR(R) clinker cooler 635 AW

– Low NO X 5 stage Preheater: 7950 PR

KHD will also supply additional environmental equipment like SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction Systems), a gas conditioning tower, SNCR (Selective Non Catalytic Reduction Systems) as well as special filter systems to reduce SO X .

With a long tradition in upgrading existing plants, KHD will install much of the equipment whilst the existing kiln continues to operate.

The Rezzato plant, built in 1964, is rich in tradition and history and is a strategic industrial site in Italy. It was designed by Italcementi Chairman Giampiero Pesenti (father of Italcementi CEO Carlo Pesenti), during his tenure as an engineer. In keeping with the history and tradition of the site, the project is scheduled to be finished in 2014, in time for Italcementi's 150 th anniversary.

Upon project completion the plant will be the most efficient and eco-friendly cement plants in Europe.
