Munich, January 4, 2006: In the business year 2005, the traditional Munich
department store LUDWIG BECK (ISIN DE 0005199905) exceeded its own
expectations and once again increased its market volume in comparison to the
previous year. Even though the difficult market situation in the retail sector
has continued unchanged and the development of the textile industry has been
negative, the Group’s gross sales grew by EUR 1.2 million to EUR 101.7 million
(in 2004: EUR 100.5 million). The fashion company’s net sales went up by 1.2
per cent. The turnover achieved on comparable space even grew by 3.1 per cent.
“We look back at a very successful year 2005”, said Dieter Münch, Head of
LUDWIG BECK’ Financial Department, with delight. “Our chief house at
Marienplatz being our traditional dynamo presented itself to its customers by
offering a constantly improved range of products as well as unique shopping
worlds. Christmas sales, major contributors to the aggregate turnover, clearly
exceeded our expectations and contributed considerably to this positive
development.”
The Management Board is optimistic about the business year 2006. By
consequently continuing its trading-up strategy, LUDWIG BECK intends to
achieve further growth in Group sales in the current business year as well as
rocketing results.
The financial figures for the business year 2005 will be published in detail
on March 15, 2006.
