MediClin Acquires Leading Specialist Clinic in the Ruhr Area
– Growth and integration platform in the most densely populated region in
Germany
– Extension of modern outpatient services
Essen-Kettwig, 23 January 2002. MediClin AG takes over the Rhein-Ruhr Specialist
Clinic located in Essen-Kettwig with effect from 1 January 2002. The former
owners have decided to sell the institution to MediClin in order to strengthen
and systematically develop the clinic and its highly qualified medical services
with a strong and competent partner.
The specialist clinic which generated a turnover of approximately 30 million
Euro in 2001 is the largest in-patient rehabilitation institution in the Ruhr
area. With 556 beds in the fields of cardiology, neurology and orthopaedics the
clinic also provides innovative services in the outpatient area. The Rhein-
Ruhr Specialist Clinic includes the rehabilitation center Essen, a modern
outpatient treatment center in the city of Essen that provides medical care
services close to residential areas as a “satellite” of the specialist clinic.
Mixed inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation is a future-oriented and effective
health care concept that is also supported and encouraged by politics to
provide a medical supply network that is close to residential areas
Through the acquisition of the regionally leading Rhein-Ruhr Specialist Clinic
MediClin is forming an excellent basis for establishment of a high efficiency
outpatient network in the most densely populated conurbation in Germany. Further
outpatient facilities are planned to be established within the scope of the
“Satellite Concept”.
Linking inpatient and outpatient acute care and rehabilitation medicine and the
cooperative inclusion of all medical care providers including general
practitioners is one of the main success factors in MediClin”s regional
integration concept. This creates the preconditions for optimal patient-oriented
treatment in both medical and economic terms.
MediClin is already represented in North Rhine-Westphalia with several
institutions: the Robert Janker Clinic in Bonn, an acute-care hospital with
focus on radiology and radio oncology, a radiological-nuclear medicine
institution and the Reichshof Rehabilitation Center, a clinic specialising in
oncology, neurology and pneumology, as well as Rose Clinic (specialist clinic
for orthopaedics, rheumatology and oncology).
Within the MediClin Group, the Rhein-Ruhr Specialist Clinic will assume a
strategically important “bridging function”, both within the Ruhr catchment
area and also with respect to MediClin”s activities in the North Rhine-
Westphalia region. Due to its high medical competence and the established
cooperation with acute care hospitals in the surrounding area, the specialist
clinic situated at the “Ruhrhöhen” is an ideal basis for further extension of
the Rhein-Ruhr regional network.
