Juli 2000–Das Muenchner Biotechnologie- Unternehmen MorphoSys AG bestaetigte heute, dass es die firmeneigene HuCAL-Technologie weiter ungehindert entwickeln und anwenden wird. Die Mitteilung wurde im Zusammenhang mit der gestrigen Anhoerung vor einer Einspruchsabteilung am Europaeischen Patentamt (EPA) gemacht. Die Abteilung bestaetigte die Kernansprueche des Patents EP 589 877 (McCafferty), das von Cambridge Antibody Technology Ltd./GB gehalten wird. Das McCafferty Patent deckt eine spezifische Methode zum Screening (Durchsuchen) von scFv (single chain) Antikoerper-Bibliotheken ab. Die HuCAL-Fab Bibliothek von MorphoSys ist nicht Gegenstand dieses Falles. Mit der kuerzlich erworbenen Lizenz von Genentech fuer Phage Display Screening hat das Unternehmen alle benoetigten Lizenzen, um HuCAL zu praktizieren. MORPHOSYS NOT IMPACTED BY EPO DECISION – Ability to practise HuCAL technologies unaltered Martinsried/Munich, Germany, –4 July, 2000 — MorphoSys AG, the Munich-based biotechnology company, today confirmed its ability to continue to develop and apply its proprietary HuCAL technology. The announcement is in response to yesterday’s decision by the Opposition Division of the European Patent Office to uphold the main claims of patent EP 589 877 (McCafferty) held by Cambridge Antibody Technology Ltd. The McCafferty patent relates to a specific method of screening scFv (single chain) antibody libraries. MorphoSys’ HuCAL- Fab library, launched in January this year, is not subject to the present case. With the recently acquired license under Genentech patents relating to phage display screening, MorphoSys has all licenses required to practise its HuCAL-technologies. Ende der Mitteilung
