The Munich-based biotechnology company, MorphoSys AG (Neuer Markt: MOR)
yesterday celebrated the Company’s 10th anniversary since its founding in 1992.
The festivities took place with several national and international guests in
attendance at MorphoSys’ premises in Martinsried near Munich. Among the guest
speakers was Bavarian Minister for Economic Affairs, Transport and Technology,
Dr. Otto Wiesheu, who underscored the pioneering role of MorphoSys in the German
biotechnology sector.
In a very visible initial public offering in March 1999, MorphoSys was the first
German biopharmaceutical company to go public, thereby helping to establish the
biotechnology sector in Germany. With partnerships including several renowned
pharma- and biotechnology companies such as Bayer, Schering, Centocor and Roche,
MorphoSys has established itself as a globally recognized leader in the field
of human antibodies. More recently, the Company expanded its business model to
include the development of own therapeutic antibodies. Presently the MorphoSys
Group employs 130 persons and generated revenues of EUR 16.1 million in 2001.
“We are very proud about the success we have achieved so far,” said Dr. Simon
Moroney, co-founder and CEO of MorphoSys AG, during the ceremony. “With an
excellent team and a powerful technology, we are well prepared for the future.”
