Variable Interest Entities (VIEs)

We hold variable interests in certain VIEs primarily in our Real Estate Investments (REI) segment which are not consolidated as it was determined that we are not the primary beneficiary. Our involvement with these entities is in the form of equity co-investments and fee arrangements. As of March 31, 2025 and December 31, 2024, our maximum exposure to loss related to the VIEs that are not consolidated was as follows (dollars in millions):
