Acquired intangible assets consist of developed technology and customer relationships acquired through our asset and business acquisitions. Acquired intangible assets are amortized using the straight-line method over their useful lives.

Amortization expense of acquired intangible assets for the three and six months ended January 31, 2020 was $0.6 million and $1.4 million, respectively. Amortization expense of acquired intangible assets for the three and six months ended January 31, 2019 was $0.1 million and $0.2 million, respectively. Amortization expense of developed technology and customer relationships is recorded primarily within cost of revenues, sales and marketing expenses and research and development expenses in the condensed consolidated statements of operations.
