Inventories in the accompanying Consolidated Balance Sheets consisted of the following amounts as of September 30, 2022 and December 31, 2021 (in thousands):

The increase in inventories as of September 30, 2022, compared to December 31, 2021, was primarily a result of advanced purchases of materials and equipment for use on specific construction projects, in an effort to mitigate the impact of increased lead times, which have resulted from supply chain disruptions.
