Other Earning Assets
Other earning assets consist of investments in Federal Reserve Bank stock, FHLB stock, marketable equity securities and other miscellaneous earning assets.

MARKETABLE EQUITY SECURITIES
Marketable equity securities carried at fair value, which primarily consist of assets held for certain employee benefits and money market funds, are reported in other earning assets. Total marketable equity securities were $813 million and $529 million at December 31, 2023 and 2022, respectively. Unrealized gains recognized in earnings for marketable equity securities still being held by the Company were $15 million during 2023. Unrealized losses recognized in earnings for marketable equity securities still being held by the Company were $45 million during 2022. Unrealized gains recognized in earnings for marketable equity securities still being held by the Company were $20 million during 2021.
OTHER MISCELLANEOUS EARNING ASSETS
Other miscellaneous earning assets consist of long-term certificates of deposit at other institutions and other receivables, and, in periods prior to 2022, included operating lease assets. Other miscellaneous earning assets were $152 million and $326 million at December 31, 2023 and 2022, respectively.
