Short-Term Investments Devon periodically invests excess cash in U.S. Treasuries, commercial paper and other marketable securities with original maturities exceeding three months. Such securities are presented as short-term investments in the accompanying consolidated balance sheets. During the first nine months of 2011, Devon invested a portion of the International offshore divestiture proceeds it had received, causing short-term investments to increase. The carrying value of these investments approximates their fair value. As of September 30, 2011, the average remaining maturity of our short-term investments was 97 days, with a weighted average yield of 0.2 percent.
