Note 17. Segment Information

We currently operate in one operating business segment focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of proprietary therapeutics. Our chief operating decision-maker manages the operations of our company as a single operating segment. We do not operate in any material separate lines of business or separate business entities with respect to our products or product development.

During the year ended December 31, 2020, total revenues generated by subsidiaries in the United States was $2.6 billion and total revenues generated from subsidiaries in Europe was $105.0 million.  During the year ended December 31, 2019, total revenues generated by subsidiaries in the United States was $2.1 billion and total revenues generated from subsidiaries in Europe was $90.0 million. During the year ended December 31, 2018, total revenues generated by subsidiaries in the United States was $1.8 billion and total revenues generated from subsidiaries in Europe was $79.9 million.  As of December 31, 2020, property and equipment, net was approximately $336.9 million in the United States, approximately $218.0 million in Europe and approximately $4.7 million in Japan. As of December 31, 2019, property and equipment, net was approximately $261.7 million in the United States and approximately $109.9 million in Europe.
