(16) New Accounting Pronouncements Presentation of Comprehensive Income In June 2011, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) issued Accounting Standards Update (ASU) No. 2011-05, Comprehensive Income (Topic 220): Presentation of Comprehensive Income, which requires an entity to present total comprehensive income, the components of net income, and the components of other comprehensive income either in a single continuous statement of comprehensive income or in two separate but consecutive statements. ASU 2011-05 does not change any of the components of comprehensive income, but it eliminates the option to present the components of other comprehensive income as part of the statement of stockholders equity. ASU 2011-05 is effective for the Company in its first quarter of fiscal 2013 and should be applied retrospectively. The Company is currently evaluating the impact of the adoption of ASU 2011-05 on its consolidated financial statements. Amendments to Achieve Common Fair Value Measurement and Disclosure Requirements In May 2011, the FASB issued ASU No. 2011-04 – Fair Value Measurement (Topic 820): Amendments to Achieve Common Fair Value Measurement and Disclosure Requirements in U.S. GAAP and IFRSs, to provide a consistent definition of fair value and ensure that the fair value measurement and disclosure requirements are similar between U.S. GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards. ASU 2011-04 changes certain fair value measurement principles and enhances the disclosure requirements particularly for level 3 fair value measurements. ASU 2011-04 is effective for the Company in its second quarter of fiscal 2012 and should be applied prospectively. The Company is currently evaluating the impact of the adoption of ASU 2011-04 on its consolidated financial statements. Business Combinations In December 2010, the FASB issued ASU No. 2010-29, Business Combinations (ASC Topic 805)—Disclosure of Supplementary Pro Forma Information for Business Combinations. ASU 2010-29 requires a public entity to disclose revenue and earnings of the combined entity as though the business combination that occurred during the current year had occurred as of the beginning of the prior year. It also requires a description of the nature and amount of material, nonrecurring adjustments directly attributable to the business combination included in the reported revenue and earnings. The new disclosure will be effective for the Company's first quarter of fiscal 2012. The adoption of ASU 2010-29 will require additional disclosure in the event of a business combination but will not have a material impact on the Company's consolidated financial statements. Intangibles – Goodwill and Other In December 2010, the FASB issued ASU 2010-28, Intangibles- Goodwill and Other (ASC Topic 350). ASU 2010-28 modifies Step 1 of the goodwill impairment test for reporting units with zero or negative carrying amounts. For those reporting units, an entity is required to perform Step 2 of the goodwill impairment test if it is more likely than not that a goodwill impairment exists. In determining whether it is more likely than not that a goodwill impairment exists, an entity should consider whether there are any adverse qualitative factors indicating that an impairment may exist. ASU 2010-28 is effective for the Company in fiscal 2012. The Company is currently evaluating the impact, if any, that ASU 2010-28 may have on its consolidated financial statements. |
