Income Taxes	6. Income Taxes Our effective income tax rates for the three-month periods ended June 30, 2013 and 2012 were 33.3% and 34.3%, respectively. Our effective income tax rates for the six-month periods ended June 30, 2013 and 2012 were 31.4% and 33.7%, respectively. Permanent items that lowered our effective income tax rates from the federal statutory rate were not materially different in amounts during these periods and related mainly to company-owned life insurance policies, domestic production activities deductions and foreign income levels that are taxed at lower rates. Our 2013 six-month period effective income tax rate was favorably impacted by the settlement of certain tax matters.
