(1)$133.6 million of cash, $174.3 million of money market deposit accounts and $601.0 million of term deposits are not subject to recurring fair value measurement and therefore excluded from this table. However, these balances are included within the $2.3 billion of cash and cash equivalents and short-term investments on the condensed consolidated balance sheets.
(2)$53.8 million of restricted cash, $0.2 million of a money market deposit account and $6.5 million of a restricted term deposit are not subject to recurring fair value measurement and therefore excluded from this table. The fair value of the Company’s Level 1 financial instruments is based on quoted market prices for identical instruments. The fair value of the Company’s Level 2 fixed income securities is obtained from an independent pricing service, which may use quoted market prices for identical or comparable instruments or model driven valuations using observable
market data or inputs corroborated by observable market data. Level 3 instrument valuations are valued based on unobservable inputs and other estimation techniques due to the absence of quoted market prices, inherent lack of liquidity and the long-term nature of such financial instruments.
During the three months ended March 31, 2021, the Company did not make any transfers between the levels of the fair value hierarchy.
Financial Instruments Measured at Fair Value on a Non-Recurring Basis
In March 2020, the Company purchased a non-marketable equity security for total cash consideration of $10.0 million. This investment is classified in other investments on the condensed consolidated balance sheets. Non-marketable equity securities will be remeasured to fair value upon the occurrence of observable transactions for an identical or similar investments of the same issuer or impairment. If these forecasts are not met, impairment charges may be recorded. As of March 31, 2021, there were no remeasurement adjustments.
