The actuarial losses resulted from the remeasurement of pension plans due to lump sum distributions that exceeded or are expected to exceed service and interest costs resulting in settlement accounting for the plans. The actuarial losses recognized for the three-month period ended April 30, 2023 were primarily due to decreases in discount rates used to determine the benefit obligation and plan experience, partially offset by gains on plan assets. The actuarial losses recognized for the nine-month period ended April 30, 2023 were primarily due to losses on plan assets and plan experience, partially offset by increases in discount rates used to determine the benefit obligation. The actuarial losses recognized for the three- and nine-month periods ended May 1, 2022 were primarily due to losses on plan assets, partially offset by increases in discount rates used to determine the benefit obligation.
