5. Cash and Cash Equivalents

The Company considers all highly liquid investments with an original maturity from date of purchase of three months or less, or highly liquid investments that are readily convertible into known amounts of cash, to be cash equivalents. As of June 29, 2013, the Company’s cash balance was $41.3 million, which was comprised of checking accounts. Additionally, the Company had cash equivalents of $36.8 million, consisting of $35.0 million of U.S. Treasury bills with a maturity of three months or less at the date of purchase and $1.8 million of money market funds. As of December 29, 2012, the Company’s cash balance was $38.0 million, comprised of checking accounts. Additionally, the Company had cash equivalents of $33.6 million, consisting of $32.0 million of U.S. Treasury bills and $1.6 million of money market funds.
