EQUITY INVESTMENTS EQUITY INVESTMENTSEastman owns a 50 percent or less interest in joint ventures which are accounted for under the equity method. As of December 31, 2022 and 2021, these include a joint venture with a 50 percent interest for the manufacture of compounded cellulose diacetate ("CDA") in Shenzhen, China. CDA is a bio-derived material, which is used in various injection molded applications, including but not limited to ophthalmic frames, tool handles, and other end-use products. The Company owns a 45 percent interest in a joint venture with China National Tobacco Corporation that manufactures acetate tow in Hefei, China. As of December 31, 2022, these joint ventures also include a 40 percent interest in a joint venture that is building a manufacturing facility in Kingsport, Tennessee. The Kingsport facility will produce acetylated wood. As of December 31, 2021, Eastman owned a 50 percent interest in a joint venture that had a manufacturing facility in Nanjing, China. The Nanjing facility produces EastotacTM hydrocarbon tackifying resins for pressure-sensitive adhesives, caulks, and sealants, which was sold in 2022 as part of the divestiture of the adhesives resins business. At December 31, 2022 and 2021, the Company's total investment in these joint ventures was $111 million and $96 million, respectively, included in "Other noncurrent assets" in the Consolidated Statements of Financial Position.
