Basic earnings (loss) per share is computed by dividing the income (loss) by the applicable weighted-average number of common shares outstanding for the period. Diluted earnings (loss) per share is calculated using the weighted-average number of shares of common stock as adjusted for any potentially dilutive shares as of the balance sheet date. The computation of basic and diluted earnings per share for calendar years 2021, 2020, and 2019 is as follows (in millions, except per share data):

In the year ended December 31, 2020 there were losses attributable to continuing operations. As a result of these losses, there were 0.1 million of potentially dilutive shares excluded from the calculation of diluted earnings per share during that year since they were antidilutive.
