Goodwill

The Company performed its annual goodwill impairment test and determined that no impairment existed for the years ended December 31, 2017 and 2016.

Intangible Assets

The Company performed its annual impairment test of indefinite-lived intangible assets and determined that no impairment existed for the years ended December 31, 2017 and 2016. The Company also reviewed its finite-lived intangible assets for impairment and determined that certain assets were impaired during the year ended December 31, 2017 as further discussed in Note 6, "Impairment." There were no impairment charges for the year ended December 31, 2016.

Other amortizable intangible assets primarily consisted of internally developed software of which $26.0 million had yet to be placed into service, most of which was impaired during 2017.

Amortization of intangible assets for the years ended December 31, 2017, 2016 and 2015 was approximately $4.7 million, $5.1 million and $37.6 million, respectively. Based on the amortizable assets in-service as of December 31, 2017, the Company expects amortization expense to be approximately $4.1 million in 2018, $3.2 million in 2019, $2.9 million in 2020, $2.0 million in 2021 and $0.3 million in 2022.
