Note 10 - Pension Benefits and Postretirement Benefits Other Than Pensions

The Company sponsors a qualified defined benefit pension plan (the “Pension Plan”) that covers approximately 9,000 participants and beneficiaries, of which 1,600 are active employees. The Pension Plan is closed to employees newly-hired after January 1, 2006. On May 12, 2016, the Company amended the Pension Plan to freeze benefit accruals, effective June 30, 2016, for substantially all of the participants under the plan. The Company sponsors two other postretirement benefit (“OPEB”) plans that provide medical, dental and/or life insurance benefits to approximately 600 retired and 600 active employees (the “OPEB Plan”).
