Goodwill represents the excess of the purchase price and related costs over the fair value of the net tangible and intangible assets of businesses acquired.

At December 31, 2015 and 2014, intangible assets represent the values assigned to trade names and trademarks and customer relationships. The trade names and trademarks have indefinite lives and are not amortized. The customer relationships are amortized over 15 years. Amortization expense is expected to be approximately $0.1 million per year through 2028.
