OHB subsidiary Kayser-Threde awarded contract for implementing the national
earth observation mission EnMAP by the German Aerospace Center
- With a total volume of EUR 90 million, the largest contract ever
received by Kayser-Threde
- Kayser-Threde assigned system responsibility for the entire mission
Bremen/Munich, November 11, 2008. Kayser-Threde, a subsidiary of the OHB
Technology Group (Prime Standard, ISIN: DE0005936124), has today signed a
contract for the realization phase of the next German satellite mission
EnMAP (Environmental Mapping and Analysis Program) with the German
Aerospace Center (DLR) in Bonn. Under the terms of this contract,
Kayser-Threde will be assuming overall system responsibility for the
mission. With a total volume of EUR 90 million, the contract for this
optical earth observation mission is the largest ever received in the
company’s history
'I wish to thank the German Aerospace Center as well as the German Federal
Ministry of Economics and Technology for the confidence placed in us. We
are very proud of being given this opportunity of revolutionizing optical
remote exploration together with our project partners via the EnMAP
hyperspectral satellite,' says Jürgen Breitkopf, managing director of
Kayser-Threde GmbH.
As the main contractor for this technologically challenging satellite,
Kayser-Threde will be assuming system responsibility in the following
areas:
- Space segment including the sourcing of the satellite bus as well as
integrating and testing of the entire satellite
- Development and fabrication of the sophisticated hyperspectral payload
instrument
- Procurement of the launch vehicle including execution of launch
preparations and launch exercise.
The core industrial team includes OHB-System AG, which will be supplying
the satellite bus.
Among other things, EnMAP’s high-quality data and the information derived
from it are to be used to improve modeling of global biospheric and
geospheric processes. The data will be utilized for ground and land
management, monitoring of water conditions and diagnostic cartography and
analysis (search for raw materials, detection of environmental
contamination) as well as disaster management.
Scientists and other users in the EnMAP user community expect EnMap to
enable a whole new quality to be achieved in earth observation data. With
the EnMAP operational phase scheduled to commence in 2013, Germany will be
gaining a leading international role in optical remote exploration, which
offers great potential for the future.
