Derivative Instruments

The Company uses derivative instruments, specifically, forward foreign exchange contracts, to manage the risk associated with the volatility of future cash flows denominated in Mexican pesos. The foreign exchange contracts are used to mitigate the impact of exchange rate fluctuations on forecasted purchases of inventory from Mexico and are designated as cash flow hedging instruments. As of September 30, 2013, the fair value of the Company's foreign currency derivatives, which is included on the Condensed Consolidated Balance Sheets in prepaid expenses and other current assets, is $166. As of September 30, 2013, $102 of gains related to cash flow hedges are recorded in accumulated other comprehensive income, net of taxes and are expected to be recognized in earnings at the same time the hedged items affect earnings. activities were considered effective and, thus, no ineffectiveness from hedging activities were recognized in the Condensed Consolidated Statements of Income. For the three and nine months ended September 30, 2013, gains of $275 and $613 were reclassified from accumulated other comprehensive income and recognized in the income statement in cost of sales.
