5)     Inventories

Inventories from continuing operations are comprised of the following (in thousands):

Distribution costs associated with the sale of inventory, which are recorded as a component of selling, general and administrative expenses in the accompanying unaudited condensed consolidated statements of operations were $2.6 million and $3.2 million for the three months ended  March 31, 2024 and 2023, respectively. Distribution costs were $8.6 million and $9.2 million for the nine months ended  March 31, 2024 and 2023, respectively.
