NOTE F – OPERATING LEASES AND COMMITMENTS

While the Company maintains ownership of most of its larger service centers and distribution centers, certain facilities and equipment are leased. Certain of the leases are renewable for additional periods with similar rent payments. Rental expense for operating leases, including rentals with initial terms of less than one year, totaled $31.7 million, $26.7 million, and $25.0 million in 2017, 2016, and 2015, respectively.

The future minimum rental commitments, net of minimum rental to be received under noncancelable subleases, as of December 31, 2017 for all noncancelable operating leases were as follows:
