Guarantees

GuaranteesWe provide warranties on certain of our products at the time of sale and sell extended warranties. The standard warranty period for our capital equipment is generally one year and our extended warranties typically vary from one to three years. Liability under warranty policies is based upon a review of historical claim experience. Adjustments are made to accruals as claim data and historical experience warrant.

Changes in the liability for standard warranties for the nine months ended September 30, are as follows:

Costs associated with extended warranty repairs are recorded as incurred and amounted to $5.2 million and $4.4 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2021 and 2020, respectively.
